Moses – 2
To set the scene around Moses we must first understand why he is in Egypt.
Moses was born into a Hebrew family into the clan or tribe of Levi.
The Hebrew people were in Egypt because they were descendants of Israel, the grandson of Abraham, a man that God had a plan for. Abraham, a man who in Hebrews 11:10 says was “a man looking for a city whose builder and foundation is God”, not a bad place for any of us to start!
These children of Israel were here because God had a plan to save them from an immediate and ultimate destruction, a plan that we as gentiles (non Jews), are also a part of because of Jesus’ death and resurrection. God came and laid down His life so you and I could go free. God is always in the business of rescuing and saving.
Moses was part of that great plan of salvation, he was the man that God used to keep His promise alive so that you and I can be partakers of all His riches in Glory Colossians 1:27, Philippians 4:19, Romans 9:22-26. Moses was destined to become the greatest leader of a disparate and ungrateful people, a people who God used to bring salvation to the world. For this to happen God had to complete a work of Grace in a man to bring him to the place where that man could trust in God and not himself.
This is true of all of us, God needs to bring us all to a place where our trust and hope is in Him and not in ourselves if we are ever to be ambassadors for Him.
So Moses was born into a Hebrew household in Egypt at a time when the multitude of the Hebrews living in Egypt were outgrowing the Egyptian population so the Pharaoh of the time issued an edict to control the Hebrew population. What the Pharaoh did not know was that he was actually fulfilling God’s plan because in Genesis 15:13-14 God had said to Abraham that his descendants would be strangers and serve in a foreign land for 400 years but that He would bring them out with great substance. Moses was part of that plan and was saved from death by the very household that was trying to eliminate these descendants of Abraham.
Moses was nursed by his own mother in Pharaoh’s court and household (you could call this the first reference to social benefit!) and was given privileges and opportunities far greater than he would have had growing up in his Hebrew household at the time, if he had survived the tyranny of the Pharaoh who wanted to destroy them.
GOD HAD A PLAN, GOD STILL HAS A PLAN, we just need to recognise and determine that we are part of that plan and then make the required adjustments to our lives so we can enjoy that plan to the full.
In reality God’s plan for us all is our salvation, a salvation that gives us hope, a salvation that gives us a firm foundation for our lives, a salvation that will sustain us through times of turmoil in our life’s journey but also a salvation that will give us great joy. So let us determine to use our salvation for the glory of God, Moses did, but before that God had to prepare him. Are we prepared for God to prepare us, to mould us, in order that His name is glorified?
